GENERAL INFORMATION: Brightpoint Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education and is the third largest of Virginia’s 23 community colleges. The college is located within the Greater Richmond metropolitan area. It serves students and the community at its two campuses, in Chester and Midlothian; online; and in locations throughout its service area. RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the President, the Executive Director of the Foundation provides leadership for the Brightpoint Community College Foundation and serves as the Chief Development Officer. Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Leading, directing, and supporting implementation of a philanthropic program that supports the college and student success while providing strategic and operational oversight to the development and fundraising programs navigated through the Foundation.
  • Serving as a highly visible, active fundraising leader, both internally and externally.
  • Cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding the efforts of the Foundation staff in fundraising, planned gifts, alumni relations, and other associated resource-generation activities.
  • Collaborating with the appropriate college teams and leaders to determine priorities for funding.
  • Working closely with the Foundation Board and staff to ensure that the priorities of the Foundation align with the strategic and operational needs of the college community, with an emphasis on student retention and success.
  • Reviewing requests from divisions, student clubs and other campus groups seeking to raise funds for activities and/or projects and decide upon such requests.
  • Communicating a shared vision for the future that engages internal and external stakeholders in building a culture of philanthropy at Brightpoint.
  • Developing strategies for increasing contributions and partnerships including fundraising initiatives, grants, entrepreneurial opportunities, and alumni activities.
  • Ensuring the Educational Foundation’s financial transactions are conducted in compliance with relevant regulations and laws and with appropriate internal controls as to ensure satisfactory audit results and provide transparent financial reporting for the IRS and for public purposes.
  • Developing and managing budgets for the Foundation.
  • Representing the college, serving on regional boards, Virginia Community College System (VCCS) committees, and other advisory boards, as needed.
  • Evaluating staff in accordance with institutional and system policies.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree and willingness to obtain a Master’s degree, if not already earned, within the first five years of employment.
  • Fundraising and/or nonprofit management experience.
  • Proven success with fundraising efforts which may include grant development, partnerships with business and industry, and/or individual donor cultivation.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations related to nonprofit operations in Virginia.
  • Ability to work with a volunteer Foundation fundraising Board.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check will be required.
