GENERAL INFORMATION: Brightpoint Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education and is the third largest of Virginia’s 23 community colleges. RESPONSIBILITIES: Brightpoint Community College invites applications for a Part-Time Lab Technician to provide lab assistance to faculty and support the science laboratories (biology, chemistry, environmental science, physics, and funeral services – including the funeral services embalming lab). Current science offerings include courses in anatomy and physiology, biology, microbiology, chemistry, physics, embalming, and environmental science. The person in this position is responsible for assisting the lab manager in ordering lab equipment and supplies, providing laboratory support to full- and part-time faculty, and performing his or her duties using safe practices. This person will assist the lab manager and support the teaching laboratories at both Brightpoint campuses (Midlothian and Chester). The person in this position should have the ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include days, evenings, and/or weekends. This part-time position will not exceed 29 hours a week.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required: knowledge of standard biological and chemical operations, equipment and procedures used in teaching laboratories. Demonstrated ability to conduct a variety of techniques and procedures related to preparation and maintenance of several teaching laboratories. Demonstrated ability to work independently and utilize good organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with a diverse population of faculty and staff. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team within a laboratory setting. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer with current software programs. Successful completion and passing of criminal background check is required. Additional Considerations: experience in preparing for undergraduate biology and chemistry laboratory activities.
