GENERAL INFORMATION: Brightpoint Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education and one of the largest of the 23 community colleges in Virginia. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Mellon Pathways Program is a partnership between Brightpoint Becoming Brightpoint Community College (Tyler), Reynolds Community College (Reynolds) and Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). The program offers pathways, resources and support for students who are completing their associate degree at Brightpoint or Reynolds and planning to transfer to VCU to complete their bachelor’s degree in the arts or humanities.

The Transfer Coach will help recruit future and current Brightpoint (Becoming Brightpoint) students into the Mellon Pathways Program. The Transfer Coach will also provide services to program participants designed to promote their student success and completion. These include academic and transfer advising, scheduling assistance, monitoring student performance, early intervention for students who become at-risk, coordinating student support with other college offices, and offering enrichment programs and events that help program participants connect with each other.

This is a grant funded position.

QUALIFICATIONS: Considerable knowledge of academic advising, enrollment processes, retention initiatives, and transfer options relating to career choices and four-year colleges and universities. Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply student services policies and procedures. Effective oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills organizational skills, time management skills. Candidates must be able to effectively use standard office electronic communication and student information systems. Candidates must be able to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings, occasional weekends and teleworking, if required. Prior advising at a college or university is required. Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Master’s degree in Counseling, Education or Student Personnel Services preferred. Proficiency in the use of PeopleSoft, Canvas, Microsoft Office and Navigate preferred. Advising experience in a community college setting preferred. Experience with advising students in arts and humanities majors preferred.
